OH HEY!
Brandon here, Founder and CEO of Cakeworthy! Thanks for your interest in finding out more about this crazy journey that we've been on as a company.
I always get asked how and why I started the brand. As a running joke, my story has constantly changed over time. I guess at 10+ years in the game, I should probably solidify my story, so here it is!
Keep reading to find out how we started, where we're going, and why we're a brand you can support with confidence!

THE BEGINNING
I was always a creative kid. Other children were playing sports outside, I wanted to sew with my Nonna or work on a craft with my family. 4 or 24, I needed a creative outlet. Cakeworthy started in a tiny spare bedroom with a craft screen printing kit, some blank t-shirts from Michaels and an Etsy account.
My first design was inspired by an old TV show I loved, and no I won’t tell you which one because I don’t want to get sued (again…you know who you are!) but the point is, someone actually bought it! Who knew there were other weirdo’s out there who loved classic animation, tv and films? I remember getting excited when I’d sell one t-shirt a day. Then it became 50 over the course of the week. I’d spend the following Saturday printing them each by hand, curing the ink with an iron, and washing the screens and equipment in the bath tub afterwards with the help of my partner at the time.
The power of social media helped the brand grow and designs became viral. I played with sublimation printing, which allowed me to turn over double the quantities I could before (and finally use colour!) From there, print on demand helped us sell inventory without the financial commitment. Finally, I decided to take a stab at small batch manufacturing overseas.

LICENSING
At this point, I was teaching full time, in school and running Cakeworthy all at once. I was exhausted. It all became too much, and a decision had to be made. I was lucky enough to be able to take a year off teaching unpaid should my decision to pursue Cakeworthy full time be wrong (spoiler alert, I wasn’t!).
Cakeworthy was growing rapidly. I was at the point where I couldn’t be doing “inspired by” designs much longer before it potentially became an issue. Lucky for me, I had a customer who worked with Disney Consumer Products who was able to secure a meeting for Cakeworthy with the licensing team. A few months later, I had my first licensing agreement.
THE FUTURE
So much has happened since then, and I've had the priviledge of working on so many amazing projects since we got our first license in 2017. There's enough to fill a book, and you're here to shop, right? Well, here's a quick snapshot of some of my favourite moments.
